Why would you do this?

Why not? Say for example, you have two friends, both are real estate agents, and you now want to sell your home but don't know who to choose because of course you don't want to offend anyone right? CHOOSE BOTH!
You heard me right, choose both, this means you get two agents, each with a network of clients to tap into, more exposure for your home because of the doubled marketing effort, and you will more than likely be able to get a hold of either one at any point throughout the process of selling.
On the flip side if you are looking for a new home, you get 4 eyes keeping an eye out on our system for your perfect home!

It is a win win situation really.

But why would they agree to do this? 

Because half the business is better than no business; agents like to stay busy (or most of us do).

But how does the commission situation work?

We share it, 50/50.
